Demonstration showcases Agora’s partnership with HTC VIVE

SANTA CLARA, CA, – NOVEMBER 10 – Agora, Inc. (NASDAQ: API), a pioneer and leading platform for real-time engagement APIs, today announced that it will walk through how to build a Virtual Reality (VR) application that allows users to live stream their VR perspective at Augmented World Expo’s AWE 2021, the leading Extended Reality (XR) ecosystem conference, which will take place from November 9-11 in Santa Clara, CA.

For its demonstration on how to build a VR app that allows users to live stream their VR perspective, Agora will use an HTC VIVE Focus 3, while leveraging Unity’s XR framework. The framework makes it easy to set up a VR environment, allowing developers to build content once and deploy across more than 20 platforms to captivate audiences across formats. The Agora Video for Unity SDK will also be used to add live video streaming directly to the experience.

“VR has seen incredible gains in popularity over the last year,” said Hermes Frangoudis, Manager, Developer Education, Agora. “But VR isn’t the only technology that has seen a surge in adoption, with live video streaming now table stakes, helping people connect and collaborate in exciting new ways. This creates an interesting opportunity for developers to build applications that leverage both VR and live video streaming to remove all barriers of distance and create an even more immersive experience.”

Agora’s AWE 2021 demonstration further showcases the value of its partnership with HTC VIVE. In June, Agora and HTC VIVE partnered to integrate Agora’s Video SDK with the HTC VIVE Sync App, enabling more seamless remote collaboration between HTC VIVE users and non-VR users within the same virtual environment. This provides users the ability to share in the same immersive experience on any device, without requiring a VR headset. Additionally, users are able to share their screens and files in the collaborative meeting environment, making the VR experience more accessible, productive and enjoyable for all participants.

Working with Agora has enabled us to fuse the physical and virtual worlds. Agora’s real-time engagement platform has helped us tremendously in allowing more people to use VIVE Sync across different platforms, and has also greatly benefited our Independent Software Vendor (ISV) program in delivering best-in-class solutions to our customers,” said Marc Metis, Vice President, HTC VIVE.

“We are excited about our work with HTC VIVE and the potential of XR live streaming because it enables seamless human connections between the real world and the metaverse, and between different metaverses, all through the power of Agora’s network,” said Tony Zhao, Founder & CEO of Agora.

In addition to its partnership with HTC VIVE, Agora recently partnered with The VR/AR Association, becoming a key member of its global community of the best minds in virtual reality and augmented reality with chapters in major cities across the globe.

Agora’s AWE 2021 demonstration on how to build a VR app that lets users live stream their VR perspective will help developers with two key challenges: how to make VR more inclusive and allow users to share their point-of-view with people who aren’t using VR headsets, as well as how to bring non-VR participants into a VR environment.
