Zhao is honored alongside other prominent business leaders at Builders + Innovations Summit in Santa Barbara
SANTA CLARA, CA — OCTOBER 17, 2018 — Agora.io, the leading voice, video and live broadcasting platform, is pleased to share that its founder and CEO Tony (Bin) Zhao has been recognized as one of Goldman Sachs’ 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs of 2018. Zhao, along with the other recipients, was honored at the seventh annual Builders + Innovators Summit, which brought together emerging and seasoned entrepreneurs across a diverse set of industries, last month.
A pioneer in the real-time communications space, Zhao was a founding engineer at WebEx Communications (now Cisco Webex) and served as CTO of YY.com, a popular Chinese social media network. As a developer and engineer, he saw the growing need for a cloud-based communications solution that could connect people and businesses around the world through the public Internet. In 2014, he founded Agora, which now powers more than 300 million minutes of communications per day.
“It’s an incredible honor to be named of the 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs of 2018. I share this award with my dedicated team and look forward to growing as a company and expanding our solutions and services to new markets and industry verticals around the world,” said Zhao. “When I founded Agora, I was able to combine my experience with my passion, which is democratizing modern communications so people have access to high-quality live video and voice no matter where they are located.”
“A dynamic economy depends on dynamic entrepreneurs who disrupt industries and occasionally give birth to entirely new sectors,” said David M. Solomon, the chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs. “The purpose of Builders + Innovators is to support emerging leaders in their quests to innovate faster in order to grow their ideas. We are pleased to recognize Tony Zhao as one of the most intriguing entrepreneurs of 2018.”
The award was received shortly after Agora revealed it had passed two billion installs for its real-time voice and video SDKs during RTC 2018, the company’s annual conference held in Beijing. Agora also announced that its developer program had grown to over 200,000 developers who are utilizing Agora’s SDKs and APIs in their applications and platforms. This hyper-growth is a result of a shift in the cloud communications space in which more developers and businesses are embedding live voice and video into their existing applications and platforms.
Powered by 200 globally distributed data centers, Agora’s proprietary software-defined real-time network delivers high-definition, low-latency voice and video communications to millions of end users worldwide.
Founded in 2014, Agora is a global company with offices in Santa Clara, California, Shanghai, London and Bangalore and customers in over 100 countries. Agora.io offers a full end-to-end platform of building blocks and capabilities that allow developers to embed real-time voice, video, and interactive low-latency live broadcasting APIs into any web or mobile application. With the Agora platform, developers can leverage embedded audio, video and live broadcasting across small and large use cases to increase user engagement and stickiness with real-time, low latency video.
